Carol Virginia Reed (Brown) (1941-2015) (1960)

Bob Ed went to the First Christian Church in Montgomery. My brothers and sisters went there when he was a member Bob Ed was wonderful yet quiet person, I had gotten married and left Alabama when he went into the military, and when he lost his life in the Vietnam War my mother Eloise Reed called and told me. Bob Ed's name is also listed on the memorial wall for Vietnam War Veterans.

Bob Ed was one year ahead of me at Lanier.  We became closer friends at Auburn.  We actually roomed together during his senior year.  He and Tess got married and had a little boy, Michael.  Bob Ed was a gung ho marine aviator.  We had a little party for him the night before he was leaving for Viet Nam.  He asked me to take him to the Montgomery Airport early the next morning.  He said he wanted to say his goodbyes to his family at home.  I was the last person from Montgomery to see Bob Ed.  His body was brought home and buried with full military honors.  He is gone...but he will never be forgotten.  Thank you my friend for your sacrifice for my freedom.

While I was on a consulting contact at the the Department of Energy in Germantown, Maryland in 1983/84 I visted the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in washinton D.C.  I looked up Bob Ed's name on the memorial. During my years at Lanier I was in the ROTC with Bob Ed.

Bob Ed and I grew up together our Mothers were good friends. I entered the Marine Corps out of high school(Class of 1961), Bob Ed continued to college and Marine Corps active duty after graduation. I learned his F 4 Phantom was shot down and he was killed from his parents and visited them shortly after.  He demonstrated the best of the best,  Semper Fi!
