William Michael Watson, 72, a Montgomery native, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 22, 2024. Mike was a member of the inaugural graduating class of Jefferson Davis Highschool in 1969 where he served as senior class president. He began his career in Montgomery working with his father at Wiatt, Watson, and Cole in 1974. In 1980, Mike, his father, and Mike Rutland established the firm 2WR Architects where he practiced for the remainder of his architectural career. Mike’s work consisted of a wide range of residential and commercial projects throughout the Southeast and he was instrumental in the revitalization and development of Montgomery's downtown entertainment district.
Mike was an active member of AIA, serving as a past president. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association. Mike had an immense love for entertaining and travel, but perhaps his greatest passion was Auburn University.
