In Memory Of Our Poets

Sharron Brady (Cates) - Class Of 1967

Sharron Cates, 75, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 20th, 2024, surrounded by her deeply cherished family. Sharron was born on June 10, 1949, to the late Lewis and Thelma Brady in Pintlala, Alabama. She devoted her life to being a mother and grandmother and loved the Lord with all her heart.

Sharron’s passion was her family and ensuring they were always cared for, whether it was her siblings, in-laws, children, or grandchildren. Known as “Nanny” by her grandchildren, comfort could always be found at Nanny’s house. If her children brought friends home, they were treated like “one of her babies” and would never forget the love they felt from the minute they met her. She loved cooking Sunday lunch and having everyone over to eat after church. She was even referred to as the family “Meals on Wheels”, having Jack run around the community taking food to the shut-in making sure they had plenty of food. Even during her final days, she had her daughter buying Christmas gifts and her sisters wrapping making sure her Christmas shopping was taken care of and she didn’t leave anyone out. She did make her life about doing for others and loving her Lord. Her favorite saying was, “The Lord will provide”.

She leaves behind the love of her life, Jack Cates; children: Angie Clark (Mike), Jackie Marts (Sean), Adam Cates (Nicole); grandchildren: Jay (Heaven), George, Alex, Bradley, Will, Ashlan, AJ, Justin, Brodie, Taylor, Charlotte, Zoey, Autumn, John, and Jacob; great-grandchildren: Scarlette, Arthur and Henry; siblings: her beloved twin sister Sandra Boddie (Bennie), Verba Lee Ray, Daisy Brady, June Brown, Pat McCain, Dianne Craig (Randy), Allen Brady (Yoko), and Larry Brady (Betsy), as well as her dear sister-in-law Ann Pascal. Sharron also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and so many others whose lives she touched. Her mother and father Thelma and Lewis Brady, her sister Betty Simmons, and her brother James (Buddy) Brady preceded her in death.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 24th at 1 pm at the Davenport Church of Christ Minister Larry Brady and Allen Brady will officiate. Burial will follow at Brady Cemetery in Pintlala. Visitation at the church from 12-1 pm. In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of the following: Davenport Church of Christ, The Core Project (Mobile, Alabama), or Baptist Hospice of Montgomery.
