Ruth McFaden (Nettles) (1907-2012) - Class Of 1925

Ruth McFaden Nettles age 104, died Saturday, January 7, 2012. Born in Montgomery, Alabama on July 3, 1907, she graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and Huntingdon College.

Mrs. Nettles spent her married life in Mobile, Alabama and later moved to Birmingham to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She was a master bridge player, loved to cook, and enjoyed her rose garden. She enjoyed many friends in Mobile and Birmingham. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Mobile and attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Birmingham.

Mrs. Nettles was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gibson Irby Nettles.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice Marie Bastar; her grandchildren, Ruth Bastar Jones (George) and Richard George Bastar, III; and eight great grandchildren, Mallie Bastar, John Bastar (Ginny), George Jones IV, Elizabeth Fleming (Beau), Addie Jones, Richard Bastar IV, Margaret Bastar, Gibson Bastar and three great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Presbyterian Home for Children, P.O. Drawer 577, Talladega, AL 35161-9975 or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service was held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 11:00. The family received friends preceding the service at 10:00 in the Founders Room. A private burial service was held Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 11:00 in Mobile.
