Perry Blankenship (Faculty) VIEW PROFILE

Perry Blankenship, a former resident of Dothan, died Wednesday night, December 5, 2012, in the Henry County Health and Rehabilitation Facility. He was 69.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 7, 2012, in the Holman Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Hosea Parker and Reverend Tom Chestnut officiating. Burial followed in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan. The family will received friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary.

Perry Blankenship, son of the late Perry Webster Blankenship and Flossie Cook Blankenship, was born and reared in Henry County, near the Bertha Community. He lived in Dothan most of his lifetime. Perry was a graduate of Abbeville High School and received a B.S. Degree in Education from Troy University. In earlier years, he was a school teacher at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery and Ponce de Leon High School in Florida. Perry was retired due to a disability from Georgia Pacific in Cedar Springs, Georgia. He was also retired from the Air National Guard in Dothan, and in earlier years served in the Army National Guard in Abbeville. Perry was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church and the Elks Lodge in Dothan. An avid runner, he formerly volunteered as a football coach at the Boys Club of Dothan. Perry was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Blankenship.

Surviving relatives include the mother of his children, Judy Edmondson Blankenship, Taylor, AL; a daughter, Kathy Blankenship Carroll, Pansey, AL; a son, Scott Perry Blankenship and wife, Carrie Ann Blankenship, Headland; two sisters, Ann Deloney and husband, Derrell, Harvest, AL; and Linda Sanders and husband, Mike, Abbeville; his brother, Mike Blankenship and wife, Alice, Bertha Community; five grandchildren, Tyler Carroll, Brice Carroll, Michael Hardwick, Mary Hannah Hardwick, and Lauren Marie Smith.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Tyler Carroll, Brice Carroll, Michael Hardwick, Brian Carroll, Eric Blankenship and David Sanders.
