Douglas (Jimmy) Owen Sheehan, 83, beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather and great grandfather passed away Thursday, October 17, at his residence following a short illness. Jimmy was born July 3, 1930 in Hayneville AL to Doug and Louise Sheehan. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Maude Daughety Sheehan, his son, Stuart Sheehan, and his sister, Betty Dekle. He is survived by his sister, Gene Brock; his son, Shane Sheehan (Donna); his daughter, Holly Sheehan; his granddaughter, Ashley Sheehan (Scott Lykins); great-grandchildren, Preston and Logan Cherry and Ryleigh Lykins and many nieces and nephews. Jimmy grew up in Montgomery AL and graduated from Lanier in 1948. He attended the University of Alabama until he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He returned to Montgomery to begin his career as a civil engineer. He retired from Professional Engineering Consultants then returned to work as a contractor for the City of Montgomery Engineering Department. During his life he enjoyed many hobbies including gem mineral collecting, lapidary arts, and growing orchids and bonsai. He was a member of the Montgomery Gem and Mineral Society, Mountain Area Gem and Mineral Association and of the East Alabama Orchid Society. He was also a past member of the Civitan Club. He was a kind, caring man who was a friend to all he met, and will be greatly missed by so many. Visitation will be held 4-6 pm Sunday at Leak-Memory Chapel, and the memorial service will be held at 2 pm Monday, October 21, at Leak Memory Chapel with Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
