Martha Ann Land (Callahan) (1934-2020) - Class Of 1952

Martha Ann Callahan, 86, from Wetumpka, Alabama departed our world to be with her Holy Father on Thursday, December 10, 2020. She was born on January 29, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Rebekah Land. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, and attended Business School in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Martha is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Baker Callahan; her five children, Linda Ewing, Debbie Callahan, Dan Callahan (Becky), Dale Callahan (Lea), Michelle Alvis (Rick); fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and her sister, Jane Wade.

Martha and Baker were wed on January 13, 1951, and shortly after relocated to Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, North Carolina. Martha dedicated her life with love and compassion serving her God, church, family, and community. She raised her family with her husband Baker for over 20 years in the United States Air Force before they settled back in the Montgomery area in 1971.

As an active member of Dalriada United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Martha served in many different capacities to include Kindergarten Sunday School Teacher, Family Ministries, United Methodist Women, and Missions. She participated in many mission trips and supported a variety of different charities, and was a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center for approximately 20 years.

Martha retired from JC Penney Company after more than 20 years where she worked in the Accounting and Business Office. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. She especially loved visiting the Great Smokey Mountains.

Funeral and Graveside services will be limited to family and held on Tuesday, December 15 at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama with visitations for the immediate family from 12-1 PM and extended family from 1-1:45 PM. Graveside services will be immediately following visitation at Greenwood Cemetery at 2 PM.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a time and date to be determined at Dalriada United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeremy Callahan, Daniel Callahan, David Callahan, and great-grandsons Cade Taylor, Baker Womack, and Sawyer Womack.

Memorials may be made to Dalriada United Methodist Church, The Montgomery Cancer Center, and Ivy Creek Hospice, or to a charity of your choice.
