Jean was the daughter of Clement Tranum Fitzpatrick and Caroline "Carrie" Goodwin Lamar Fitzpatrick, of Montgomery, Alabama.  She was born November 27, 1907 in Montgomery.  After having graduated from Lanier, she attended the University of Alabama and was a member of Delta Delta Delta social fraternity.  She later transferred to Huntingdon College in Montgomery and received her diploma there. 

In 1930, Jean married Lion Gardner Mason at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, Alabama.  They made their home in Atlanta, Georgia, where Jean was a member of the Junior League.  Jean and Lion had two children:

Lion Gardner Mason, Jr.
Caroline Lamar Mason

Jean passed away in Atlanta on August 21, 1988.
