Hillard Grady Ward - Class Of 1948

Hilliard Grady Ward, Jr., 87, of Peachtree City, GA, originally from Montgomery, passed quietly in his sleep Thursday, August 13 after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Ward was the son of the late Florence Mitchell Ward and Hilliard Grady Ward, Sr. of Montgomery. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Priest Ward of Peachtree City; son, Robert Mitchell Ward of Senoia, GA; sisters, Virginia Billy of Montgomery, Helen Ledbetter of Estero, FL, and Jeanette Orr of Eufaula, and brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Mary Ward of Birmingham, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Michael, Carl and Billy Ward and sister Frances Ward.

Mr. Ward attended the Starke Military Academy in Montgomery and spent 8 years in the Navy. He was a graduate of the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, DC. He also worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and retired from IBM Corporation after 30 years as a customer engineer in Worcester, MA, Florence, SC and Jacksonville, FL. He was a 50 year member of the Queen City Masonic Lodge #761 in Clarksville, TN.

A memorial service will be held at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone, GA, where Mr. Ward was a member, on August 22 at Noon. He will be interred at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon, MA.
