James Edward Dunn (1927-2013) - Class Of 1946
DUNN, James Edward, age 86, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013. Mr. Dunn was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Gwendolyn Eloise Dunn. His mother and father (deceased) were Neil Edward Dunn and Bernice Guy Dunn, two sisters (deceased) Carrie Rebecca Dunn Girlinghouse and Gwendolyn Dunn ReMine ("Tiny"), two uncles (deceased) Carl Guy and R.J. Guy. Mr. Dunn is survived by four children, Lisa Beasley, John Free, Mark Free, Greta Koch, one grandchild, Bayley Rebecca Beasley; a brother-in-law, Ralph Haber; three nephews, Glenn Haber, Andy Haber, Dan Haber; two nieces, Carol Atwell, Ellen Evans, cousins June Thompson, Clarice Emerson, and a sister-in-law, Betty Haber. Mr. Dunn grew up on a family dairy farm in Montgomery and later served in the U.S. Army as an instructor before receiving an honorable discharge. Upon discharge from the Army, Mr. Dunn began work in the home building business with his uncles. Mr. Dunn continued in the home building business until his retirement. Mr. Dunn's hobbies included his work building houses, hunting with his beagles, travel camping, visiting friends, and doing for children. He enjoyed hosting fish fries and homemade ice cream gatherings with family and friends. Mr. Dunn was a charter member of Perry Hill United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20, at 2:00 pm at Leak Memory Chapel with Reverend Anna Tew Officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sun, May 19, at Leak Memory Chapel from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Perry Hill United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Children's Home in Selma AL.
