Durden Coleman Lee (1938-2013) - Class Of 1956

Durden Coleman "Coach" Lee, 75, passed from this life to his reward in Heaven on Saturday, November 2, 2013 after a lengthy illness. His family was by his side. Durden was born in Montgomery on April 13, 1938. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Durden Lee, his mother, Catherine Corley Lee and his grandmother, Lila Mae Reynolds. Durden is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Pat Lee, his daughter, Cathy Cook (Mark), his son, Edward "Bubba" Lee (Diane), his daughter, Lila O'Ferrell (Dean); Grandchildren , Joy Ashe (Ethan), Dean O'Ferrell III (Ginger Anne), Daniel O'Ferrell (Jessica), Jacob Lee (Lesley), Cole Cook (Jessi), Amanda O'Ferrell (Chad) and 8 great grandchildren. Coach Lee was a successful coach at Capitol Heights for 11 years ('58-"69). He left coaching and spent the rest of his life in business. Thousands of young men were positively influenced by Coach Lee. Pallbearers will be the original members of the first Lee H.S. football team (1955) of which Durden was co-captain; Judson Huett, Pat Garner, Ed Jones, Charles Tatum, Raymond Parker, Billy McNair, Ealy Jackson, Carl Hopson and close personal friend Charles "Bubba" Turner. Honorary pallbearers are: Tom Searcy, David Rushton, Don Harbin, Walter Cooper, Ed Spencer, Jack Bell, Larry Shaver, Wendall Connor, Bobby Spann, Rex Akin, Coach Jim Chafin and all of Coach Lee's former players. Funeral services will be held at Eastmont Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 5th at 11:00am with Rev. Mike Northcutt officiating. Visitation is scheduled for two hours prior to the service.
