Mary Lee Hughes (Gipson) (1938-2012) - Class Of 1956

Mary Lee Hughes Gipson, a Prattville, Alabama resident, died unexpectedly on Friday December 7, 2012 after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life service was held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Prattville First United Methodist Church with Dr. Rob Couch officiating. A visitation and reception followed in Pratt Hall.

Mrs. Gipson was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on May 14, 1938. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1956 and moved to Prattville after living in Mobile, Alabama and Panama City, Florida. She served on the Advisory Board of the Autauga DYS Campus and the Autauga DHR Quality Assurance Team. She was a 16 year member of the Alabama Legislator's Spouses Club, as well as the Autauga County Heritage Association. Mrs. Gipson was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where she held various volunteer positions. She volunteered for many community and civic positions.

Mrs. Gipson was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence Lee Hughes and Mary Dill Watterson Hughes; two sisters, Mildred Hughes Carter and Betty Jo Hughes Gilpin, and a brother Robert Allen Hughes. She is survived by her loving husband, H. "Mac" Gipson; four children, Meg Gipson Lowry, H.M. "Hootie" (Alta) Gipson, Robert A. "Bob" (Cathee) Gipson, Jo Ella (David) McIntosh. Six grandchildren; Benjamin M. (Ashley) Lowry, Lee Grayson Lowry, Carter Ashmore Gipson, Hannah Lucille Gipson, John David McIntosh, Mac Henry Monroe McIntosh and one great grandchild, Mary Collins Lowry.
