Mrs. Ruth Stevenson (Typing, Business Dept. Head 1972 -1990)

Ruth Sadler Stevenson, 83, a longtime resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a battle with chronic dementia. Known affectionately by her family as "Mackey," Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Winston Stevenson, and her parents, Ruth McMillan Sadler and Cecil R. Sadler.

Born in Selma and raised in Nadawah, Alabama, Ruth was cherished as the first grandchild in her family and deeply adored by her aunts and extended relatives. Throughout her life, she carried forward the warmth, grace, and gentility characteristic of her Southern upbringing.

A dedicated educator, Ruth held a Bachelor of Science and a Master's Degree in Education from Auburn University, specializing in Business Education with a minor in English. Ruth taught business courses, including accounting, shorthand, English, and American government for over 26 years at Lanier High School in Montgomery and Luverne High School. At Lanier, she was highly respected, serving as Head of the Business Department and actively participating in numerous school committees and student organizations.

In addition to her career in education, Ruth enjoyed various roles in retail and hospitality, working at prominent establishments such as Dillard's, Gayfers, The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, and Café Parisian. Her outgoing and warm personality shone brightly, allowing her to easily connect with customers and coworkers alike.

Active within her community, Ruth was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church, where she participated in Sunday School and various church activities. Her involvement extended to several community organizations including Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kappa Iota, and Altrusa Club, where she held multiple leadership roles and significantly contributed to the local community.

Ruth treasured her opportunities to travel alongside her husband Winston, visiting numerous countries including Germany, Ireland, Scotland, and beyond. Her adventurous spirit and love for exploration were a testament to her curious and lively nature.

She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, vivacious conversations, devotion to family, and affection for her beloved cat, Kitty.
