Van Abon Norris (1955-2007) - Class Of 1973

Richmond, Virginia - Van Abon Norris, 51, died suddenly of heart failure at his home in Powhatan, Virginia, near Richmond on February 19, 2007. Mr. Norris was born on September 3, 1955, in Atlanta, Georgia to Claude Quillian Norris and Reba Brown Norris. He was the grandson of Claude and Clio Norris, of Winterville, Georgia, and of Abon and Mattie Brown, of Peachtree City, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Anne Clifton Norris. Surviving also is his sister, Diane Norris Patterson, her husband, Tommy, his brother, Samuel Allen Norris, and his wife, Cynthia, all of Montgomery, Alabama, as well as niece Megan Norris and nephews Brandon Patterson and Benjamin Norris.

Mr. Norris received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 1977, and his Master's in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1979. He received a Master's in Software Engineering from Auburn University in 2004.

Mr. Norris spent most of his career in finance and sales but spent the last two and a half years of his career in information technology. In June of 2006, he joined Swedish Match North America in Richmond, Virginia. He served on the Auburn University Department of Management MIS Advisory Council.

He was a loving husband, an avid reader, a golfer, and a music enthusiast. He loved family, friends, and SEC football.

Visitation will be at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home on Lexington Highway in Athens, Georgia, at noon on Friday, February 23rd, immediately prior to the graveside service at Winterville Cemetery in Winterville, Georgia, at 2 pm.
