THAMES, Elizabeth Ray, also known fondly as "Sister", born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, died after a prolonged illness on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at the age of 59. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at White Chapel. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lily Pelzer Whetstone and David Lewis Whetstone, and her parental grandparents, Lyde Ray Thames and William K. Thames, Sr., and her parents, Elizabeth Whetstone Thames and William Kingsbury Thames, Jr. She is survived by two children, Charlotte Thames (Terrence) and Beau Thames (Jessica); by her two brothers, David W. Thames (JaNell) and William G. Thames; by several nieces and nephews; and by her two horses and seven dogs -her loving companions for many years. In her younger years, Sister enjoyed riding her beloved white horse Goliath along Woodley Road and attending Auburn football games. In her later years, Sister enjoyed life away from the City in Grady, Alabama, where she made her home for the last twenty plus years. She enjoyed a simple life of spending time with her dogs and horses. She anxiously awatied football season all year long and was always ready to cheer a big "War Eagle." Sister loved to laugh and her laughter will be missed by many. Thanks to all who cared for Sister over the years. Thank you to Alberta Thompson for listening to and loving Sister for so many years. And, a special thank you to caregivers, Cortez and Ameedah, you made her life more comfortable these last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montgomery Humane Society.
