Shaffer Wren Johnson (-2011) - Class Of 1941

Mr. Shaffer Wren Johnson went to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama. Funeral services will be Friday, September 30, 2011, at 11:00 am at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Tim Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette City Cemetery, Lafayette, Alabama, Jeffcoat Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Shaffer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Beaird Johnson; five daughters and two sons, Janice Stough (Cabott), Judy Bradshaw (Jim), Gary Johnson, Jackie Crum (Richard), Carmen Johnson (Harold), Camille Aurelio (Jim) and Joel Johnson; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Andrews (Jay), Brian Thomas (Ashley), Brandon Jackson, Summer Hinton, Sarah Wright (Matt), Michael Aurelio, Chase Johnson and Maggie Aurelio and eight great grandchildren, Jacob, Zachary, Justin, Madison, Hannah, Will, Emma and Harper. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Jennie Johnson; brothers, Jim and Russell and a grandson, John Thomas, Jr. Shaffer was a World War II Veteran, having served during D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, was an avid golfer and loved living on the lake. He also loved pulling his wife, children and grandchildren waterskiing behind the family ski boat. Shaffer was a loving husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the caregivers on the East Wing at the William F. Green Home, especially Jennifer, Keisha and Ethel.
