Coach Charles David Sikes (Head Coach 1980 -1989; Adm. Assist. 1990s)

Charles David "Coach" Sikes passed away June 11, 2011 at their family farm near Honoraville, Alabama. He was 74 years young and a longtime resident of Montgomery, Alabama.

Coach Sikes was preceded in his death by his parents Danley and Pauline Sikes of Petrey, Alabama and his sisters Ruth Adams and Jean Jocelyn of Montgomery.

Coach Sikes is survived by:
His wife Conni Hobbs Sikes of Montgomery, Alabama;
His son David E. Sikes and wife Jami of Opelika, Alabama;
His granddaughters Savannah, Lindsie, and Victoria Sikes of Peducah, KY;
His sister Eureka Rhodes of Highland Home, Alabama;
A devoted niece and nephew, Brenda and Ronnie Humphrey of Tallassee, Alabama;
and several other loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Coach Sikes career as a teacher and a football coach spanned 33-years at Hinesvilles, Georgia; at Valley High School; at Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama; at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama; and at Southern Academy in Grady, Alabama. His teams won two state football championships at Valley High School.

Upon retirement he shared his passion for quail hunting by teaching and guiding many individuals in the sport. He was a true outdoorsman and was characterized by his numerous prized bass displayed in his home. Coach Sikes has touched the lives of many athletes and students under his care as a coach and a teacher on and off the field. Many will remember him as a tough but fair coach.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 14th, 5:00-7:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 1:30pm at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama with Larry Davidson officiating. The funeral will be followed by a private graveside service for family members in Petry, Alabama. Serving as Pallbearers are Ronnie Humphrey, Terry Styron, Randy Gainey, Ronald Rhodes, Trey Trussell, Mike Fuller, Cory Hobbs and Casey Hobbs.
