Victor Fleming Griswold, Jr., 91, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Hopewell United Methodist Church in Shopton Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Patrick McWhorter and Rev. Kent Dendy officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Church Cemetery with Gray Funeral Home directing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Moore Griswold; his brother, John Lewis Griswold and parents, V.F. Griswold and Enola Meriwether Griswold. He is survived by his children, Jim (Teresa) Griswold, Peggy (Jeff) Sutton and Vic Griswold; grandchildren, Karen Urquhart, Jamey Griswold and Travis Brown; great-grandchildren, William and Emily Urquhart and Carson Brown; sisters, Florence Evans and Margaret Rogers; nieces and nephews, Enola Bozeman, Becke Blanton, Cliff Evans, Betty Maxwell, Doug Rogers, Jane Campbell, Mike Griswold, Julie Waldrep, Bill, Bob, Steve and Susan Moore and brother-in-law, William L. Moore, Jr.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a teacher of physics and science at Sydney Lanier High School and Cloverdale Junior High in Montgomery from 1953 until he retired in 1981. Mr. Griswold was a long time cattle farmer in Bullock County, a member of Hopewell UMC in Shopton and an Auburn University graduate. He was affectionately called "Hoolie".
A visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
