Lettie Craig Green Cornwell, "Craig", 90, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2018. She was born January 19, 1927, in Montgomery, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, her "sweet man" Virgil, her son, Hardy Keith, and her sister Kate Olive Gordon.

She is survived by her sons, Bill (Marcie) of Montgomery, and Craig (Denise) of Guntersville, and daughters, Janet Nebrig (AI) of Hoover and Rachel Harris (Charlie) of Montgomery, sister, May Marshall Ellis of Fort Deposit, and brother, Marshall-Green (Betty) of Montgomery and brother-in-law, Collins Gordon of Hope Hull; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Craig was a 72-year member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, she served as president of the chapter while in college and as an active member of the Montgomery alumnae group. Craig also served as president of the Women's Student Government of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute, later known as her beloved Auburn University. For many years, the Cornwells were active members of Memorial Presbyterian Church of Montgomery, where Craig served in various leadership and service roles. Recently, she has been a member of First United Methodist Church of Montgomery.

Craig was known as "Mama Craig", not only to her five children but to the many friends who came through her door. Her nurturing, sewing and cooking skills were legendary and will be greatly missed. The most visible expression of her mothering heart and faith in God was the way she patiently and faithfully cared for her handicapped son, Hardy, for 30 years. Playing bridge, traveling and dancing with Virgil were sources of great pleasure for years.

Craig truly loved and depended on her special friends and companions, Carolyn Robinson and Christa Harris, and wish to offer thanks to all the people of Right at Home and Kindred Hospice.

Craig's memorial service will be held January 19, 2018, at 12:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 2416 Cloverdale Road, Montgomery, Alabama, with a visitation to follow the service.
