Linda Carol Brown (Pontius) - Class Of 1981

Linda Carol Brown Pontius, age 46, of Bessemer, Alabama, died on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Linda was born August 18, 1963, in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, in Montgomery, Alabama, and the University of Alabama, where she was a Alpha Omicron Pi sorority member. She was a longtime member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Montgomery and active in the Youth Choir, Kirk Ringers Hand Bell Choir, Youth Fellowship, and Sunday School. She served on the John Knox Presbytery Youth Council and was a camp counselor at Gulftreat Presbyterian Camp and Covenant Mountain Presbyterian Youth Retreats.

More recently, she served in several capacities with Fairfield Highlands Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church of Birmingham congregations. Other activities included backstage mom for dance recitals, McAdory softball team mom, McAdory Yellow Jacket Booster, PTA, room mother, field trip chaperone and other supporting roles at Greenwood & McAdory Elementary and McAdory Middle School. She was a licensed residential real estate appraiser training with her sponsor Gloria Kurtts and working with Robert Dow and Marc Hutchinson.

A Celebration Service will be held at Fairfield Highlands Presbyterian Church, in Midfield, on Monday, December 28, 2009, at 12:30 pm following a private graveside service at Highland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held before the service from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home. Dr. Wayne Berry will officiate.

She was preceded in death by her father, Col. Bury G. Brown, Jr.; grandparents, Tom and Ruby Holderfield, Bury G. Brown, Sr., and Vivian Brown Doll; aunts and uncles, Miriam and Harry Green, Virginia and Jimmy Golden, Nann Holderfield, Mildred and Len Cochran, Evelyn and Jim Fuqua.

She is survived by, Bill and their daughters, Madison Grace and Melissa Sue; mother, Evelyn H. Brown of Bessemer; brothers, Dr. David Brown (Susan), Dallas TX, Glenn Brown (Jamie), Barlett, IL, Neil Brown (Karen), Atlanta, GA, Richard Brown (Kathy), McKinney, TX; aunt, Eloise Holderfield, Birmingham; uncle, Tom Holderfield, Jr., Cocoa, FL; as well as nieces and nephews Karin Shoffner (Mark), Mark Danuser (Christine) and Katy Hobbs (Ryan), Dallas, TX, Christine Klayman (Gregg) and Kevin Brown (Jennie), New York City, Justin Brown, Cordele, GA, Katherine Brown, McKinney, TX, Samantha and Stephanie Brown, Bartlett, IL; cousins, Diane Hellum, Candee Abercrombie, Deedee Hawkins, Ed Fuqua and Ralph Fuqua, Pensacola, FL, Bob Green, Lenior, NC, Diane Green, Atlanta, GA, Todd Holderfield, Forsyth, GA; also friends, special friends, and ever growing clan of Crimson Tide boosters.

In place of flowers, Memorial Gifts may be made to Sheppards & Lapsley Presbytery-Living River a Retreat on the Cahaba, 3603 Lorna Ridge Drive, Hoover, AL 35216. Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ponitus family.
