In Memory Of Our Poets

Howard Patterson "Pat" Garner, Jr. - Class Of 1975

In The Care Of Leak Memory Chapel

Howard Patterson Garner Jr. was born in Montgomery, Alabama on September 30, 1956. He peacefully went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family at home on March 15, 2024. He was a former coach and teacher at Montgomery Public Schools.

He was married to Angela Jones Garner, and they have three children; Howard Patterson (Trey) Garner III (Sarah), Kristen Garner Dabbs (Nick), and David Garner (Annie). They have nine grandchildren; Gates Garner, Chapman Garner, Garner Dabbs, Gray Dabbs, Briggs Dabbs, Ford Garner, Jones Garner, Hobbs Garner, and Helms Garner.

One sister and two brothers survive him; Elizabeth Garner Ferguson, David Garner, and Robert Garner; his father-in-law, Dr. James E. Jones; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Patterson Garner Sr. and Jane Marie Helms Garner; and his mother-in-law, Martha Bell Jones.

Pat loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he exemplified a Christ-like spirit in his daily life.

He was passionate about sports, especially Auburn sports, and anything and everything his children and grandchildren were participating in. He also loved to travel.

Pat loved his family so much. His children and grandchildren filled his heart with pride and joy. Angie was the love of his life, and he was hers. Pat and Angie Garner illustrated what a Christ-centered marriage is all about.

He had a gentle heart and a strong spirit. His patience and empathy for others, his strength to fight, and his will to live through the pain and hardships he endured were remarkable. He persevered through a 20-year hard-fought battle with cancer with a smile on his face and never a complaint. His faith in the Lord was his focus, and it showed.

We’ve lost a beloved family man and a friend to all, but our hearts rejoice to know that he is now with Jesus, healthy and whole. Heaven got a whole lot sweeter and a whole lot more fun when Pat was called home.

Pat always enjoyed life to the fullest, even when it was hard, and we should consider ourselves blessed to have been a part of this wonderful life.
