John Scott Gilder of Mt. Meigs, Alabama, passed away April 19, 2017. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Christie Gilder, and by his parents, Helen and Cadwell Gilder.
Mr. Gilder was born in Montgomery County. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and attended Auburn University at Montgomery. He married Mary Catherine Marshall on August 14, 1982. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors, history, and building projects that included an Indian chickee, an earth sheltered house, and many original pieces of furniture.
Mr. Gilder is survived by his wife, Cathy; brother, Gil Gilder, sister-in-law, Sally Gilder; nieces, Beale Gilder, Christie Gilder Johnson, Elizabeth Gilder, Ashley Siegel, Lindsay Stringfellow, and Mary Allison Dees; nephews, Bret and Jason Paulk, John and Jeffrey Tippins; mother-in-law, Mary Ella Marshall; brother-in-law, Preston Marshall; sister-in-law, Susan Tippins (John); sister-in-law, Leigh Paulk (Jeffrey); and great-nephews, Gilder and Garner Johnson.
Services will be April 22 at 10:00 am at the Gilder family cemetery near the intersection of Pike Road and Vaughn Road. Entrance inside Merry Station subdivision.
