Daniel Mark Blitz, life-time resident of Montgomery, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the age of 60. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Roslyn & Sam Blitz, and survived by his wife of 36 years, Rhonda Wise Blitz; son, Sam Blitz; brothers, Jeff (Robin) Blitz of Montgomery and Russ (Jann) Blitz of Birmingham; brother-in-law Gary (Michelle) Wise of Montgomery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Dan attended the University of Alabama. After college, he pursued a real estate career with Blitz & Golinsky Real Estate and Aronov Realty, and was a founding partner of Montgomery Metro. He then founded and was the sole proprietor of Filter Services for over 31 years.
Dan touched many lives throughout his Dixie Youth Baseball coaching career that spanned from 1981 to 2001. He was a fixture at the Southeastern League where he led numerous SouthTrust and all-star teams to championships. He made life-long friends through his love of baseball and his players.
Also an active member in the community, Dan was a life-long member of Agudath Israel-Etz Ahayem Synagogue and the Red Elephant Club.
A visitation with the family will be held Sunday, January 25 from 1:00-2:00 at Leak Memory Chapel at 945 Lincoln Road in Montgomery. Services will be held immediately following at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Dan's memory be made to Alabama Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 600 Beacon Parkway West, Ste 860, Birmingham, AL 35209 or Agudath Israel-Etz Ahayem Synagogue at 3525 Cloverdale Rd, Montgomery, AL 36111.
