Mrs. Thomasana "Tommye" Barfield Dunning, age 70, a resident of Coosada, Alabama, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Thomas and Lucille Barfield.

Mrs. Dunning was born on September 24, 1953, to the late Charles Thomas Barfield and Lucille Doris Johnson Barfield in Montgomery, Alabama. She retired from East Alabama Medical Center as a Registered Nurse after 22 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Coosada Baptist Church.

Tommye is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Roger D. Dunning, her daughters Michelle (Andrew) Chiles and Melissa Dunning, one sister Cecile (James) Meacham, her granddaughters whom she adored, Ada and Annelise Chiles, nieces and nephews, Michael (Amberly) Mathews, Jonathan Mathews, Jody (Tara) Dunning, Donny (Jennifer) Davis and Randy (Stephanie) Davis.

The family will accept flowers. Memorials may be made to Compassion International, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Central Alabama Nurse Honor Guard in her memory.

The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home,

Funeral services for Mrs. Dunning will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Graham and Norman Turnipseed officiating. The interment will follow at Brookside Memorial Gardens.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Michael Mathews, Jonathan Mathews, Jody Dunning, David Phelps, Cole Pinkston, Donny Davis, Bryan Harris, and Vincent Mathews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Davis and the Central Alabama Nurse Honor Guard.
