Cheryl Juanita Martin, better known as Yaya, age 72, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home with her husband Larry by her side on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Cheryl J. Martin was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on June 6, 1950, to James Bryant Davenport and Eloise Pugh Davenport. She was married to Larry Patrick Santich for 12 years. She had a career in executive corporate administration for many years until she retired. She was previously a member of the Notary Association and a vocational instructor. She was loved by many and had a passion for sewing, crossword puzzles, cooking, fishing, dancing, and live music.

She was a loving mother to her two sons. She adored her eight grandchildren and enjoyed family gatherings. She will be missed by us all dearly.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her son Edwin Ernest Martin IV, father James Bryant Davenport, mother Eloise Pugh Davenport, aunts and uncles Mary Ellen Piper, Bobby and Loy Piper, Carrick and Thomasine Piper, Edward Piper, Clarence and Thelma Davenport, Robert Davenport, Ray and Boots Davenport, Buck and Clarice Daniel.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Patrick Santich, son James Scott Martin (Jennifer M. Roe), daughter Lindsay Santich (Justin Tarshis), son Colin Santich (Tashina Santich), daughter Kelly Day (Scott Day), grandchildren Elena Martin, Kyler Santich, Vivienne Martin, Colton Santich, Edison Martin, Tenley Santich, Ethan Day and Lilianna Day, sister Angela Stovall and brother Greg Davenport.

A graveside ceremony will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 11 am at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, Texas 77077. Please arrive a few minutes early to meet at the main building at the front entrance. We will be escorted to the gravesite.

Following the ceremony, please join us for Yaya’s Celebration of Life 12 pm – 3 pm.
