Earl Wade Weeks (1948-2016) - Class Of 1967

Earl Wade Weeks, 68, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 29th 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis TN. Mr. Weeks was born in Montgomery AL on May 14, 1948, to the late Virginia Louise and Early O Weeks.

Mr. Weeks began his military career serving his country as an enlistee in the US Army in January of 1970. He completed his military career in 1977, serving in the Alabama and District of Columbia National Guard. While serving in the National Guard, Earl took classes at Troy State University and Central Michigan, successfully completing his Master’s in Business Administration (1975). After completing his time in the Army National Guard, Earl began his career working for the Rural Electrification Administration and later managed electric co-op’s Idaho County Light & Power in Grangeville, Idaho and 4-County Electric in Columbus, Mississippi as General Manager and CEO. After retiring from 4-County Electric in 2000, Mr. Weeks accepted a position as the Executive Director for the Columbus Housing Authority and served them faithfully until June of 2014. Throughout Mr. Weeks’ extensive career, Earl served as chairman of Idaho Cooperative Utilities Association and the advisory board of the rule National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Cooperation, President Of the Pushmataha Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, North Mississippi Emmaus community, past president of the Columbus Lowndes Economic Association, board member of the North Mississippi industrial development association, Board member on the Executive Committee Golden Triangle Link. Most Importantly, Mr. Weeks diligently served the Lord by faithfully attending First Baptist Church of Columbus MS. At First Baptist Church, Mr. Weeks served on the deacon committee where he was privileged to serve as chairman for 1 term. Earl was also an active member of the Gatewood Sunday school class.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Virginia Louise and Early O. Weeks and older sister Priscilla. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Siglinda (Siggy), daughters Melissa Evans (Richard) Maria Coon, (Scott) and Michelle Weeks and a son Matthew Weeks (Meredith) along with eleven grandchildren, Taylor Weeks, Clay Coon, Madelyn Coon, Megan Evans, Alex Stevens, Ashley Stevens, Nolan Coon, Connor Stevens, Morgan Evans, Ethan Weeks and Lillian Weeks He also leaves behind a sister named Cindy and two nieces Jennifer, Beth and nephew David. On Behalf of Earl, the family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and physicians that diligently cared for him. A memorial service with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating, and U.S. Army Honors, will be held Thursday August 4, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 p.m until service time at the church. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
