In Memory Of Our Poets

Louise Gilbert (Hicks) (1949-2023) - Class Of 1967

Nancy Louise Hicks, 74, of Montgomery, Alabama, entered the glorious gates of Heaven on August 30, 2023. Born in Kentucky, she moved to Alabama in the early 1950s where she grew up and attended Harrison Elementary and Bellingrath Junior High before graduating from Lanier High School. She went on to obtain an associate degree from ACA College/Faulkner University. In 1969 she married her husband Robert (Bobby) Hicks. Louise and Bobby are parents to four sons, Michael, Steve, David, and DJ.

Louise retired from the Montgomery Public School system at Carver High School and began working at Amridge University, where she remained employed until her unexpected passing.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Margaret Gilbert, and her sister, Lynn Gilbert Starling. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Hicks, sons Michael, Steve (Susie), David, and DJ, as well as four grandchildren whom she adored and who adored her, Whitney, Preston, Marley, and Caitlin; brothers, Tom and Jimbo (Sherry) Gilbert, sisters, Lee (Ron) Hill and Libby (Randy) Taunton; mother-in-law, Dorothy Hicks, brother and sister in law, Jimmy Hicks and Janet (Jimmy) Mathews, and several nieces and nephews.

Louise was a member of Vaughn Park Church of Christ and loved worshipping our Lord and Savior. She had a beautiful singing voice.

She always showed special love to her grandchildren by attending all of their various sporting events and activities. These are the things she cherished most. As an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan, she looked forward to the beginning of football season, and with nervous excitement she watched her favorite team play each week.

Services will be held at Leak Memory Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Visitation will begin at Noon, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church in Grady, Alabama.
