Betty Lane (Westcott) (1929-2008) - Class Of 1950

WESTCOTT, Betty Lane, a na­tive of Montgomery died Thursday, January 03, 2008 in a local hospital following an extended illness.  Funeral services will be held on Mon­day, January 7, 2008 at 11:00AM at Leak-Memory Chapel with George Herring officiat­ing. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Ceme­tery.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday at Leak-Memory Chapel.  She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Anderson Westcott, two daughters of La­Grange, Georgia, Betty Lane Westcott and Melanie West­cott Reams. Betty Lane gradu­ated from Sidney Lanier High School and attended The Hockaday School in Dallas,Texas, and graduated from Southern Methodist University, also in Dallas, Texas.  Always loyal to her church and to her friends, Betty Lane served in different capacities on boards and committees to show her interest in the com­munity. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and a member of many social, civic and cultur­al organizations such as For­systhia Garden Club, Mother­’s Round Table, Thespian Club, Daughter’s of the American Revolution (Anne Phillips Chapter), Daughters of the American Colonists (Nicholas Meriwether Chap­ter), Daughters of 1812 (Al­abama Chapter), Colonial Dames, XVII Century (Benj­amen Fenn Chapter) United Daughters of the Confedera­cy (Chapter #94), Alabama Historical Research Society, Hugenot Society of South Car­olina, Capital City Republi­can Women, Old South His­torical Society, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Montgomery Muse­um of Fine Arts, Landmark So­ciety, and enjoyed her spe­cial friends in The Gathering.  Serving as pallbearers will be Duncan T. Black, Lon Connor, Ron Holladay, James Fuller, Charles B. Campbell and An­drew Gerachis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Buddy Freeman, William Petrey, Will Gardner, Tharpe Forrester, Bruce Gregory, Harry Allen,Olin Vinson, Howard Perdue and E.J. Meyer. Contributions may be made in memory to AGAPE of Central Alabama.
