Mrs. Nancy Walker Carter, age 77 and a life-long resident of Montgomery passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at home surrounded by her children.
Nancy was a member of Eastmont Baptist Church and the JOY Sunday school class. She enjoyed fellowship with her church members, especially the group of card-playing ladies and the weekly prayer group.
Nancy was employed at Parisian Eastdale Mall for over 25 years and “retired” to take care of her grandbabies. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the Smokey Mountains, spending time with family and friends, and in her words, she was “the Biggest Roll Tide fan” there was. One of Nancy’s proud mom moments was watching her children play and coach at the Montgomery Gray softball league, particularly in 1996 when the Debs All-Star team won the World Series in Decatur, Alabama. She also was so proud of her grandchildren and supported them in all their sporting events and competitions.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Walter “Willie” Walker and Fenella Harris Walker as well as her husband of 47 years, Thomas M. “Tommy” Carter. She is survived by her brother Walter “Snookie” Walker, sister Laura Ruth Garrett, son Kenneth (Holly) Carter, daughter Holly Long (Mark) and grandchildren Brittney, Baylie Grace, and Carter Long, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Nancy also leaves behind her beloved Corgi, Peanut.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 10:00 am from Leak Memory Chapel with the Reverend Mike Northcutt officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Leak Memory Chapel from 9:00-9:45 am on Saturday, December 30, 2023.
