Hunter Vaughan Pope, owner of Pope Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, died August 5th after an extended illness. Dr. Pope, a native of Montgomery, graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1963. He was a 1967 graduate of Auburn University and a 1976 graduate of the UAB School of Dentistry where he received his Doctoral Degree in Dental Medicine. He served honorably on the Alabama State Board of Dentistry and was actively involved for 35 years in the profession he loved. Captain Pope faithfully served his country as a combat medic with the US Army's 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother and precious daughter Heather. He is survived by his wife Teresa, sister-in-law Mary Pope and her children, William Pope, Steffen Wilson, and Randy (Denise) Pope. He is survived by ten step children; 12 grandchildren; and a host of friends, colleagues and patients who dearly love and miss him.
Memorial service: Sun., Aug. 23rd at 2 p.m. at the Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church, 6110 Deerfoot Parkway Trussville, AL. Interment: Full military honors on Monday, 24th at 2:45 p.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119 Montevallo, Al. In lieu of flowers, donations: Safe Harbor Palliative care unit of the Birmingham VA or Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church.
