John Allen Dees (1945-2018) - Class Of 1963

John Allen Dees died Monday, February 26, 2018, at the age of 73. Born in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Annie Ruth Frazer and Morris Seligman Dees of Mt. Meigs, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Dees and Dorothy Dees.

Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Bloom Dees, his children, John Allen Dees, Jr, Jane Leslie Dees Speigner (David Lee), Grandchildren Samuel Virden Morse III, John Tatham Dees, Leslie Hammer Dees, Amelia Lee Glenn Speigner and daughter in law, Marion Hammer Dees.

Allen attended Sidney Lanier High School where he held many state records in high jumping. He was a member of the 4H Club and raised the grand champion steer for the state of Alabama in 1962.

He attended the University of Alabama on a track scholarship and was a member of Delta Tau Delta.

After graduation, his first job was with Capitol Records in Los Angeles, California. When he returned to Montgomery, Allen started Dees Communications, Inc., a publishing, and marketing company.

Allen served on the board of Baptist Health Foundation and the Standard Club.

Allen is survived by his brothers, Morris Seligman Dees, Jr (Kathleen Kalahar) and Charles Leslie Dees (Emily Hobbie Register).

Pallbearers will be Christine Beazley, George Beck, Rick Beringer, Kent Brunson, Jack Bryant, Tommy Potts, Charles Stults, and Isiah Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Bloom Plot, Eternal Rest in Oakwood Cemetery.
