In Memory Of Our Poets

Carolyn Corson (Clark) - Class Of 1961

Carolyn Corson Clark
September 17, 1942 - September 7, 2025

The family of Carolyn Clark is saddened to announce her passing on September 7, 2025. Carolyn passed away at her home in Montgomery, AL, after a short illness. Her loving family surrounded her.

Carolyn Rose was born on September 17, 1942, in Columbus, GA. She came into the world as a great surprise – seven minutes after her twin sister Carole was born. The twins were born to Lt. Col. Fred James Corson and Rose E. Tallman Corson while stationed at Fort Benning, GA. This was Carolyn's first stop of many travels through the years as an Army “BRAT.” A brother and a little sister joined the family, and the four Corson siblings learned to stick together as they traveled extensively in the United States, Germany, and Japan – moving every year and a half. Carolyn told hilarious stories (as only she could) about their many travel adventures, with the other three chiming in. There was a consensus that most of the trouble they got into as kids was instigated by Carolyn.

Carolyn graduated from Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL, with a lifelong interest in becoming a nurse. She was delayed in that pursuit after meeting and marrying handsome Air Force fighter pilot, Hugh Turner. The couple soon had two beautiful daughters, Kelly and Tara, and moved to Hawaii. While living in Hawaii, Carolyn continued pursuing her interest in nursing by volunteering at the military hospital there, while also being a full-time mother and homemaker.

Carolyn and her girls moved back to Montgomery, where she earned a nursing degree and began a long career as a nurse. Many described her as a “natural,” a teacher and mentor, and a “Super Nurse.” Carolyn served in many capacities as a nurse, but her favorite position was in the middle of the fast-paced action of the Emergency Room, which suited her perfectly. She loved her career, had great respect for the doctors and nurses with whom she worked, and nurtured lifelong friendships.

It was often said, “They broke the mold when they made Carolyn,” and it was true. She was known by many nicknames: Mom, CC, Womb-mate, The Crazy One, Social Butterfly, The Energizer Bunny, Dancing Queen, Animal Lover, and Super Nurse.  She was full of life.

Carolyn had a big heart and a generous nature. She loved her daughters, and as a single mother, she often had to put their needs above her own. She also loved her family and friends with all her heart, and she always made it clear to you how much she loved you. Nieces and nephews tell of being greeted by Aunt Carolyn with loving hugs and a kiss. And they were always left with the stain of her bright lipstick on their cheeks and the lingering whiff of her perfume in the air.

Carolyn loved shopping for clothes and shoes in the latest style. She never wanted to act or look old, refusing until the end to wear sensible shoes. She loved animals—especially dogs—and had many of them over the years. Her dogs (and your dogs or cats) would also be left with the stain of her bright lipstick on their faces! Carolyn also loved plants and flowers and had a “green thumb” just like her mother had.

Having grown up traveling the world with her family, Carolyn continued a love of travel throughout her life. She especially looked forward to yearly trips with her dear friends in the Maxwell AFB Reunion Group—a group of friends she and her twin made during their high school years at Lanier. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers-in-law: Skip Barsom, Walt Sellers, and Robin Trotter.

She is survived by her two daughters Kelly Turner Langston and her husband William (Bo) and Tara Turner Massey and her husband Ken who took care of her so devotedly; grandchildren Madison Turley and her husband Gray, Austin Massey, and Anna Langston; as well as her great grandchildren Walker and Rhett Turley who brought her tremendous joy – all from the Montgomery area.

Carolyn is also survived by her twin sister, Carole Sellers, of Ramer, AL; her brother, Fred Corson, and his wife, Sandy, of Murrells Inlet, SC; her sister, Donna Barsom, of Niceville, FL; many loving nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Dianne Bainter, of Fort Walton, FL.

A celebration of life will be held at the beach in Destin, Florida, in October.

In lieu of flowers, please have a glass of wine, buy a cute pair of shoes, or make a donation to: Montgomery Humane Society, 1150 John Overton Drive, Montgomery, AL 36110.

You can look for Carolyn swimming with the dolphins...but rest assured, they will have a hard time keeping up with her!

I am a dolphin, I swim in the sea,
flipping and shining. Can you see me?
Now you do, and now you don't.
                                                                            Try and catch me—you won't, you won't!
I jump in the air and feel so free,
twisting and turning. Can you see me?
Now you do, and now you don't.
                                                                             Try and catch me—you won't, you won’t!
