Mr. Charles E. Crockett (Social Studies And Commercial 1964 -1970)

Charles Elliott Crockett, 74, of Montgomery died Monday, January 4, 2016 at Jackson Hospital as a result of complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure.

He was born on Wednesday, July 16, 1941 in Tallassee, AL, son of the late Charles Harris Crockett and the late Levice Elizabeth Crockett.

After graduating from Auburn University with a history degree on June 8, 1962, he worked in education in numerous high schools and colleges for the next 50 years. He earned his doctorate from Auburn University on June 8, 1994. He passionately taught history to thousands of young people over the span of his long career. His favorite subject was the Civil War. Even in retirement, he enthusiastically pursued learning as much as possible about the history of the United States of America, as well as government and political analysis. Outside the classroom, his primary interests were reading, woodworking, and a love for all things Auburn University that was instilled in him by his late father.

Surviving are wife, Judy Harrison Crockett of Montgomery, AL; Son, Mark (Chris) Crockett of Mebane, NC; Son, Allen Crockett of Montgomery, AL; Daughter, Kathy (Buzz) Powell of Auburn, AL; Brother, Joe Tom Crockett; Granddaughter, Britt (Matt) Cherry; Grandson Stephen Crockett; Grandson Brad (Jenna) Powell; Granddaughter Haley Crockett; Granddaughter India Powell; Granddaughter Hannah (Christopher) Hall; Granddaughter Emma Claire Crockett; Great grandson Silas Cherry; Great granddaughter Miri Cherry; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Children's Center in Charles' memory. The Children's Center is located at 310 North Madison Terrace, Montgomery, Alabama 36107.
