Bobby C. Ledford (1936-2010) - Class Of 1955

LEDFORD, Bobby, age 74, a long time resident of Montgomery, AL. and a current resident of Mobile, AL. passed away on Dec. 28, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betsy Martin; son Richard, a US Army Engineer Captain and Iraq war Bronze star recipient; daughter, Leigh Anne, a 6th grade teacher in the Mobile County School System; his father, Warren Ledford; stepmother, Velma, two brothers and a sister. He was a 1955 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery where he played baseball and basketball. An outstanding southpaw pitcher, he lead Sidney Lanier to 3 consecutive state baseball championships and one Southeastern Championship. He received a baseball scholarship to The University of Alabama, being named to the All Southeastern Conference Team. After graduation, he signed with the Cleveland Indians, playing with their organization until returning to Montgomery and beginning a long successful career as a Sales Executive for IBM. He was an avid golfer and fast pitch softball enthusiast, being named to the All World Team and was an inductee into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. A family memorial service will be held in Auburn, AL on January 29th.
