Priscilla Gilmer (Dixon) (1945-2009) - Class Of 1963

DIXON, Priscilla Gilmer passed away peacefully on 29 August 2009 at the Capital Hospice Halquist Memorial Center in Arlington, Virginia.  Priscilla was born on 25 June 1945 to Patricia Johnson Gil­mer and Edward DeKalb Gil­mer, Jr. of Montgomery, AL.  She was a member of First Christian Church in Montgom­ery and a 1963 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School where she was in the National Honor Society and Editor-in-Chief of the 1963 Oracle year­book. Priscilla attended Au­burn University, where she was a member of Tri Delta so­rority and the Assistant Editor of the 1965-1966 Auburn Glo­merata yearbook.  As an adult, Priscilla lived in Alexan­dria, Virginia where she worked for the Departments of Navy and Defense and re­tired as a GS-15 after 30 years of civil service.  She was in­strumental in the creation of the Defense Automated Pub­lishing Service (DAPS), mod­ernizing publishing capabili­ties across the Department of Defense. She was a devoted member of Fairfax Christian Church in Fairfax, Virginia for 38 years, serving as Church Moderator, Elder, Deacon,and Worship Chair.  She is sur­vived by her loving daughter, Jennifer Kelly Dixon; aunt, Ann Webster; uncle, Roger Powell; nephew, Alex Bana­kas; and cousins, Margie Knox Lindsey, Rick Webster and Becky Webster Adams. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Liz­beth Gilmer Lowrey. A me­morial service will be held at First Christian Church in Mont­gomery (1705 Taylor Road) on Thursday, 10 September 2009 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Green­wood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Capital Hospice (471515th Street, Arlington, VA22205), Fairfax Christian Church (10185 Main Street,Fairfax, VA 22031), or First Christian Church of Mont­gomery.
