Norton William Brooker, Jr. (1944-2006) - Class Of 1962

BROOKER, Norton W., Jr., age 62, a native of Wilmington, North Carolina and a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, died Sunday, July2, 2006 at a local hospital.  He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1962; The University of Alabama in 1966 and The University of Alabama School of Law in 1968.  He was a partner practicing oil and gas and real estate law with Lyons, Pipes & Cook, P.C. for the last 38 years.  He was an avid sailor and active member of the Mobile Yacht Club.  He had the distinction of serving as Commodore of the Mobile Yacht Club; Commodore of the Gulf Yachting Association and as a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Sailing Association, Inc.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Norton William Brooker, Sr. and Mary Stewart Aycock Brooker of Columbia, South Carolina.  He is survived by his wife, Prather Pipes Brooker; his sons, William Thomas Brooker of Houston, Texas and Stewart Jefferson Brooker of Chicago, Illinois; his brother, Eugene Aycock (Alice) Brooker, of Columbia, South Carolina and nephews.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mobile Bar Foundation for the Mobile County Public Library, P. O. Box Drawer 2005, Mobile, Alabama 36652 or the Gulf Yachting Association Foundation, 270 Lafayette Street, Mandeville, Louisiana 70448.  The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 5, 2006 from 10:30 to 12:00 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 4051 Old Shell Road, Mobile, Alabama 36608. A memorial service will follow at 12:00. Burial will be private.
