Lee Martin Russell, Dvm (1935-2005) - Class Of 1953

RUSSELL, Lee Martin, D.V.M., 70, Life-long resident of Montgomery.  He was born November 30, 1935; passed away December 6, 2005.  He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Otis (Dave) Russell, Sr. and Sue Martin Russell and son-in-law Edward Andrew Cameron, Jr.  He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Chadwick Russell; children, Susan Russell Cameron, St. Pete Beach, FL, Lee Martin (Russ) Russell, Jr., (Valerie), Pike Road, AL, Scott Chadwick Russell (Heather), Pike Road, AL; beloved grandson, Zachary Cameron Russell;  Also, brother, Roy Otis Russell, Jr., (Marietta), Pike Road, AL; aunt, Virginia Scott Martin; cousins, William Martin (Molly), Louise Hunt and Mary Virginia Martin, all of Pike Road; sister-in-law, Dani Beasley (Jim), Crossville, TN and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and clients. Lee graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and from Auburn University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He practiced in Montgomery for 43 years as the owner of Eastmont Animal Clinic. He also owned and operated Eastdale Marine.  He was a member of Alpha Psi veterinary fraternity and an alumni initiate of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.  He served as the Alumni President of Alpha Psi.  Lee was a member of the American and Alabama Veterinary Medical Associations and was past president of the Central Alabama Veterinary Association.  He received the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association Service Award in 1979.  He also served on the Alabama State Board of Health. Lee was the Chairman of the Kidney Foundation of Alabama.  He was given several awards including its highest one, the H. Shannon Lowder Founder's Award.  Lee was a member of Woodland UMC;  He was past Chairman of both its Administrative Board and its Finance Committee.  He was a member of the Pike Road Community Club. He served on its board several times and was voted "Outstanding Citizen of Pike Road" in 1990.  Visitation will be held Friday, December 9th, 2005 from 4 to 6 pm at Southern Memorial. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 10th at 10:30 am at Woodland United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Woodland United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4428 Wallahatchee Road, Pike Road, Alabama, 36029 (Corner of Vaughn Rd./Wallahatchee).  Lee was a great supporter of organ donation. You can best honor his memory by completing an organ donor card. These will be available at both the visitation and the service. Southern Memorial
