Iva Mildred Carr Housch passed peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 91 years of age. A lifelong resident of the Montgomery, Alabama area, Mildred's life was one of faith, family, and service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Fleming Carr and Opal Chapman Carr; her beloved husband of 61 years, Robert Cecil Housch; and her brothers, Thomas C. Carr and Warren A. Carr.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Cecilia H. Porterfield, and her husband, Randy; her grandson, Randal N. Porterfield, and his wife, Peri Lane; her granddaughter, Miranda P. Bragg, and her husband, Daniel; and her precious great-grandson, Oliver. She is also survived by her sister, Teresa Stacy, and her husband Bob, as well as many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who loved her greatly.
Mildred worked tirelessly for the Lord throughout her life. She served faithfully as a Bible class teacher, a deacon's wife and elder, and as an organizer and supporter of mission work both locally and abroad. She was a people person with a servant's heart — always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer words of encouragement.
She loved her family deeply and was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a fun, spirited "Aunt Millie" and "Mama Millie." Mildred thought of others to the very end, embodying a selfless spirit that touched the lives of countless people.
Her legacy of love, faith, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A service to honor Mildred's life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 P.M., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 P.M.
