STUART, Dr. Fletcher S., departed this life July 10, 2011. He was born in Bay Minette, Ala., and reared in Montgomery, Ala. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara G. Reeves; daughter, Dr. Rebecca S. Toupal (Mrs. Frank) of Spokane, Wash.; son, Peter F. Stuart of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter, Mary S. Turner of Sewanee, Tenn.; daughter, Margaret Stuart of Seattle, Wash.; and step-son, Andrew J. Reeves of Tampa. After graduating from The University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn., he attended graduate school at Washington University, Saint Louis, Mo., and received a doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Alabama, Birmingham. Following the U.S. Army service at Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco, Calif., he practiced in Brewton, Ala., Sewanee and Winchester, Tenn., Fox Army Hospital, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., and briefly at MacDill Air Force Base. His leisure activities were choral singing, religious studies, duplicate bridge and ornamental horticulture. Following cremation, there will be a memorial service in Sewanee. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The University of the South, University Relations, 735 University Ave., Sewanee, TN 37383 or to LifePath Hospice.
