Martha Sue Cobb Cargile passed away on November 29, 2014 at the age of 80. She was a lifelong resident of Millbrook, Alabama, but for the last 18 months had lived at Park Place Assisted Living in Denver, Colorado. She was predeceased by her husband, Gay Wright Cargile of Charleston, W. Va. and Millbrook, Ala. and her brother Calvin Cobb, Jr.
She was born March 24, 1934 in Jackson Hospital and lived on South Edgewood Road near Cobb's Ford. Her parents were Calvin James Cobb and Mary Berry Cobb. Her step-mother was Mary Terry Cobb.
She is survived by her brother Donald Cobb (Sandy) of Ft. Worth, Texas. She is also survived by son Curt (Kay) of Midland, Mich; daughter Kathy (Jim) Cowling of Lake Mary, Fla; and son John of Denver, Colo. Granddaughters: Allison Cargile of New York, NY; Emily Cowling and Sarah Cowling of Lake Mary, Fla.; Elizabeth Cargile of Midland, Mich.; Georgia Cargile and Tatum Cargile of Denver, Colo. Grandsons: Joseph Cargile (Brittany) of Jacksonville, Fla. and Tucker Cargile of Denver, Colo.
She was a 1951 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Ala. and 1955 graduate of Alabama College for Women in Montevallo, Ala. After teaching for a year at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, she was married and moved to West Virginia.
Her family returned to Millbrook in 1971. She taught first grade for many years at Robinson Springs Elementary. She was a member of Millbrook First United Methodist Church where she served on the board, played the piano, and sang in the choir. She was an active member of the community and was a poll worker for many years.
She played golf at The Pines Golf Course, exercised at Camp Grandview YMCA, played bridge, and volunteered with Jackson Hospital and Meals on Wheels.
Funeral services will be held at Millbrook First United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Dr. Nathan Atwood officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
