John Abercrombie Taber (1932-2015) - Class Of 1950

John Abercrombie Taber, a native of Montgomery, AL, was born on July 31, 1932, and died on July 13, 2015. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katharine "Kitty" Taber Terry (Joe). He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances McKissac Taber; two daughters, Rebecca Taber Williams (Dwight) of Birmingham, and Elizabeth Taber Montesano (John Paul) of Fairhope; grandchildren, Anne Taber Hancock Fava (Scott) of Annapolis, MD, Charles Phillip Hancock of Nairobi, Africa, Frances Taber Bailey of Denver, CO, Samuel David Williams of Nashville, TN, and John Taber Montesano of Fairhope; great-grandchildren, Charles Hastings Fava and Katharine Taber Fava of Annapolis, MD.

John was a graduate of Huntington College and the Cumberland School of Law. Throughout his professional career & personal life, he was an attorney and lifelong advocate for Civil Rights. John was a champion for helping others strive for the elusive fearlessness that he so matter of factly possessed. He had a quiet strength, a relentless resolve and shoulders broad enough to carry the world two times over.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Saint James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, AL, The Reverend Donald M. Smith, presiding. Serving as Honorary Pall Bearers will be Colton Coile, Billy Davis, Pat Haley, Frank Hickman, Frank Hollon, Rick Kingrea, and McGowin Williamson.

John's family will greet guests with a reception following the service in Green Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial gifts be directed to Saint James Episcopal Church.
