Thomas "Tom" C. Porter, Jr. (1932-2009) - Class Of 1950

PORTER, Thomas C, Jr. lost his battle with cancer on July 30th, 2009. Born in Central, Alabama, he resided in Melbourne, Florida at the time of his death. Thomas was 77 years old, born on April 4th, 1932.  He was a re­tired U.S. Air Force non-com­missioned officer (NCO) who attained the rank of Techni­cal Sergeant before his retire­ment in July, 1973. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954, and in the Air Force from 1954-1973.  He served as a navigator on the destroyers U.S.S. Purdy and U.S.S. Hyman in the Korean Conflict, and with distinction in North Africa as a Logistics NCO during the Cuban Mis­sile Crisis.  In August, 1977 Thomas re­ceived his Bachelor of Sci­ence Degree in Hotel, Food, and Travel Services at Florida International University.  Thomas is survived by Marie Anne Porter, spouse, Mel­bourne, Florida; Colonel Den­nis C. Porter, U.S.A.F. (retired), son, Durham, North Carolina; Therese Ann Johnson, daugh­ter, Wendell, North Carolina; Thomas C. Porter III, son, Hills­borough, North Carolina; Wil­liam Parks, stepson, Water­town, New York; Douglas Parks, stepson, Miami, Flori­da; and Robin Boag, step­daughter, Palm Bay, Florida.
