Hugh Martin Faulkner, age 82, passed away Dec. 18, 2013 in Montgomery. A devoted Christian, son, brother, father and grandfather, Hugh was known for his kindness, humor and life of service to others. Hugh served his country proudly in the Korean War as a Navy corpsman assigned to the 5th Marines Division, earning a Purple Heart as well as a recommendation for the Bronze Star. Following the war, he earned a degree in Chemistry from Huntington. He then taught from 1958-66 at Sidney Lanier High School, where he was eventually named to the school's Hall of fame. He also earned his Master's in counseling from TSUM. He then served as a mental health counselor for many years, eventually retiring as the Director' of Outpatient Services for the Montgomery Mental Health Authority. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion Arnold Faulkner; his daughters, Celeste (Like) Granthum, Elizabeth (rob) Cocking, Deborah (Jason) Brown; grandchildren, Drew, Britt and Will Granthum, Jessie and Laura Cocking and Molly, Marion and Morgan Brown. He also survived by sisters, Elna F. Newton, Hazel F. Rickabaugh of Montgomery and Lois F. Barnes of Beaumont, Tex. Pallbearers will be Brian Schwab, Will Faulkner, Allen Barnes, Roy Rickabaugh, Bob Faulkner and Lamar Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers include the Truitt Bible Fellowship Class, Mac Faulkner, David Berry, Mike Jarrell, Bobby Schereen and Bob Bowling. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20. at Leak Memory Chapel Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at Leak Memory Chapel, with Dr. Jay Wolf officiating. Graveside will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to the Caring Center at First Baptist Church- Montgomery, 52 Adams Ave., Montgomery, AL, 36104.
