In Memory Of Our Poets

Edna Earle Walls (Eagerton) - Class Of 1949

It is with both heavy hearts and warm memories that we announce the passing of Edna Walls Eagerton. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and was fondly known to many as “Miss Mama”.

Edna was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. She married the love of her life, Col. Charles William Eagerton (Ret) on March 17, 1950. They had two daughters, Cheryl and Cathy. Edna loved living on their family farm, gardening, and helping with the cows and horses. She became a widow at age 56 but continued to live a life of devotion and commitment to her husband and family, as she loved being a military wife, loved her country, and was a very patriotic woman.

She was a member of Pintlala Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her church family, who gave her much love and support throughout her later years. She was previously a member of McGehee Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL, and continued to keep in touch with her dear friends from this church. In her early years, Edna loved being an active member of the Pinedale Community Center, where she made lifelong friends. She also enjoyed working as a bookkeeper at Central Alabama Academy, where her children attended high school. She continued to keep up with the friendships and former students at Central. Edna often spoke of spending time with her two sisters and their families at the chalet in Pine Mountain, Georgia, where they enjoyed many family reunions. She loved her cat, Tabby, who was so much company to her in her later years.

Edna is survived by her two devoted daughters, Cheryl E. Cardwell (Steve) and Cathy E. Walker (Kenny), and one grandson, David E. Walker (Christina), as well as many adored nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Edna was greeted at the gates of heaven by her husband, Billy, parents, Charles Earl and Addie Jane Walls, as well as siblings Nancy “Bee” Allen and Norma Jane Eagerton.

There will be a Public Visitation on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Montgomery Memorial Gardens, 3001 Simmons Drive, Montgomery, AL 36108, and a Graveside service from 11:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edna’s memory to Pintlala Baptist Church, at 73 Federal Drive, Hope Hull, AL 36043, or CRU @ Post Office Box 628222, Orlando, FL 32862-8222 (David and Christina Walker – Account).
