Carrie D. "Nette" Smith (Saunders) (1930-2013) - Class Of 1948

Carrie (Nette) Smith Saunders, 83, was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama and died on September 20, 2013 in Dothan, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Saunders, her sister Elsie Leckie, and her brothers James Clyde, Dean, and Reford Smith. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deanna (Dee) and Joseph Higginbotham, Dothan, Alabama; her brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Imogene Smith, Prattville, Alabama; two nieces and six nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many loving friends.

Ms. Saunders was a 1948 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School, a member of Dalraida Church of Christ, a life member and Past Matron of Elizabeth Armstrong #10, Order of the Eastern Star, and a past Grand Chaplain of the Grand Chapter of Alabama, as well as past Treasurer of Montgomery Amateur Radio Club. She was, for a number of years, the owner of the Corner Store inside the Montgomery Area Square and Round Dancers Association building, and was office manager of Pelham, Shell & Leckie and of Teena Originals, and accountant for Franco Distributing for many years.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Sept 26 at her home at 535 Dalraida Road from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and for an hour before the service at Dalraida Church of Christ. Memorial services will be held Friday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m. with Doug Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Dalraida Church of Christ, or Elizabeth Armstrong Chapter #10, OES.
