JOY PURIFOY WALLER, age 78, of Montgomery, Alabama died February 7th after a battle with lung cancer. Joy was born on June 28, 1930 in Montgomery, Alabama to Calvin Young Purifoy and Sarah Louise WInterath Purifoy. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, and received her B.A. degree from the University of Alabama where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Joy was married shortly after graduation to Bogue Maultsby Waller of Montgomery, and after several moves with the Army returned to Montgomery to raise five children. Joy was active in the community as a member of the Junior League, a Master Gardener, room mother for her children’s classes, Girl Scout Leader and Tutor for the Adult Literacy Program. She also had an active career, working as an elementary schoolteacher, a junior high schoolteacher, gift shop owner, and real estate agent. She enjoyed music, photography, gardening, cooking, art, and painted actively in her retirement. Joy is survived by four children, Kathryn W. Miree (Ben),Virginia W. Clark, Louise W. Blanchard (Bill), and Bogue M. Waller, Jr. (Cindy), and eight grandchildren, Sarah Clark, Troy Clark, Calvin Clark, Kyser Miree, Harrison Miree, Katie Waller, Trip Waller, and Kathryn Blanchard. She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Louise Purifoy, and her daughter, Frances Amelia Waller. The family will receive visitors Saturday, February 14, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Montgomery Humane Society, 1150 John Overton Drive, 36110-3235 or your favorite charity.
