Wallace Lamar Jackson (1930-2015) - Class Of 1948

Wallace Lamar Jackson, age 85, of Montgomery, AL, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015.

He was born October 19, 1930 to Eely Elbert and Ruth Cumbie Jackson in Greenville, AL. The family soon moved to Montgomery. Wallace graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1948 and earned a degree in Business Administration from Huntington University in 1952. He served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954 then began a career of 35 years with the Alabama Air National Guard 280th Combat Communicators. He later retired in 1990 as a Chief Master Sgt.

In 1954, Wallace married Janice Mathis. It was a blessed union graced with four children. He spent his retirement employed at H&R Block and as a devoted teacher and Deacon of Dalradia Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife of 60 years.

Survivors include his brother, Eely Elbert (Ann) Jackson, Jr. of Big Canoe, GA; children, Steven Jackson, Randy (Kathy Thornton) Jackson, Jeffery (Pamela Johnson) Jackson, Kimberly Jackson (Wade) Ellis; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to Tammie Gibson. She was a dear friend and wonderful caregiver for 9 years.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, November 16, 2015 at Leak Memory Chapel with Brother Rick Evans officiating followed by the burial at Greenwood Serenity Gardens. The family will accept friends from 11-12:00 PM prior to the service. Leak Memory Chapel is directing.
