Betty Rachel Baker Geck passed away April 26, 2014. She was born September 2, 1929 in Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Baker. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Edward Geck.
Betty is survived by her two children, daughter, Heidi Geck Morris (John) of Tampa and son, Joseph Geck (Susan) of Hickory, NC; two grandchildren, Rachel Morris and Joseph Morris.
Betty graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, and became a registered nurse at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. She also served in the United States Air Force Reserve Nursing working for the Veterans Administration in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After moving to Tampa in 1975, Betty worked at University Community Hospital and retired from a career in nursing at Town and Country Hospital in 1991.
Betty enjoyed playing bingo and working out with her girlfriends at the gym. An avid Tampa Bay Rays baseball fan, she could be seen in her later years using a Louisville Slugger baseball bat as a walking cane. Most of all she, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at the beach playing in the sand or playing card games.
A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, April 30, from 4-6 pm at Brewer and Sons Funeral Home, West Hillsborough Avenue, Tampa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to LifePath Hospice.
