William O. "Whitey" Overton, Sr. Ph.D., age 86, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, July 1st, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Oct. 10, 1928, to the late, William and Anna Oliver Overton, in Montgomery, AL.
Bill was an amazing Olympic athlete. He ran steeplechase for Alabama Polytechnic, now Auburn University, and was an Olympian in the 1948 London Olympics. He was an outdoorsman who loved snow skiing and duck hunting.
Bill was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He worked for Shell Oil for 32 years, and then worked for Premix, Bailey Corp., and was the President of E.P.I.C.
Most of all, Bill loved his family and enjoyed helping raise his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mona Overton; children, William O. Jr. (Gabrielle) Overton, Thomas (Willa) Overton, Michael Johnson, Mitchell (Heather) Overton, Misty Viscari, and Matthew Overton; eleven grandchildren; sister, Betty Ann(Roger) Overton-Little; one niece; and one nephew.

A memorial service will take place at 11AM at the Community of Christ, 3376 Wheeling Rd. in Lancaster on Wednesday, July 15th and also on Friday July 24th, at 11AM at St. John's Episcopal Church at 113 Madison Ave, Montgomery, AL, 36104, with one hour of calling for family and friends, prior to both services.
