In Memory Of Our Poets

Ann H. Harrell (Copeland Fitzpatrick) (1927-2010) - Class Of 1946

On November 05, 2010, Ann Copeland FITZPATRICK died peacefully at home much as she had lived her life, with grace and surrounded by beauty. She was the first child of Cornelius Herbert and Mary Morgan Harrell born on October 19, 1927. The family moved to Montgomery from Flomaton, Alabama when she was 14. She attended both Auburn University and Huntingdon College before marrying and having four children. She also discovered a talent for art and a passion for learning. As a charter member and a director on the board of the Montgomery Museum of Art, Ann emerged as a regional artist determined to make beauty and a thoughtful exploration of the world around her accessible to everyone through her canvases. After the death of Albert, her husband of 32 years, she discovered love again. At 57, she married C.T. Fitzpatrick and for 17 years the two enjoyed a passion for family, travel, stories, and each other. Her abiding gift to all who knew her was her ability to see light, color, whimsy, and extraordinary magic in the most ordinary of moments. We all hope that you will follow her desire to discover, delight, and support beauty wherever you find it. She is predeceased by both of her siblings, Mary Jo Harrell Wells and Cornelius Herbert Harrell, Jr., her first husband Albert Whiting Copeland, and her second C. T. Fitzpatrick. She is survived by her four children Albert Harrell Copeland (Deborah), Paul Whiting Copeland (Susan), Lee Hall Copeland (Jessica), and Anna Copeland Wheatley, and by her grandchildren Wesley Clayton Copeland, Robert Harrell Copeland, Paul Darden Copeland, Matthew Edwin Copeland, Patrick Dobson Copeland, Lee Hall Copeland, Jr., and Albert Whiting Copeland, II. Other family members include Frances Angela Wells, Pamela Grace Wells, Kathleen Cope Harrell, Kathleen Harrell Champion (Bob), Tranum Fitzpatrick (Martha), Burke Fitzpatrick Chambers (Bud), and LD Fitzpatrick (Cindy). She also leaves behind many special friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 09, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. Rev. John Coleman and Rev. Mark Waldo will conduct the services. Prior to the funeral, the family will hold a visitation period at the Church of Ascension's Ascension Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A private committal will follow the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 315 Clanton Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104; Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, One Museum Drive, Montgomery, AL 36117; or to the charity of your choice.
